Signing up

Anyone can open an account. The only decision to make is which kind.

Athlete or coach

At sign-up you are asked to pick one:

  • I'm an athlete. You follow the programs a coach writes for you, log your sets, and post to your clubs' feeds. This is the default, and it is what most accounts are.
  • I'm a coach. As well as everything an athlete can do, you create clubs, write and import programs, assign them to your members, and add movements to the shared exercise catalog.

Signing up as an athlete

  1. Open strong-fish.com and choose Sign up.
  2. Fill in your name, surname, email and a password.
  3. Leave I'm an athlete selected.
  4. Confirm your address from the email you receive.

That is the whole flow. You are in.

Nobody has to approve you, and you do not need a club to start: record your maxes under My 1RMs and the app is already useful. A club is what connects you to a coach.

Signing up as a coach

The first four steps are the same - pick I'm a coach at step 3.

The sign-up form with "A coach" selected

What differs is what happens next:

  1. Your account is created as an athlete, and works immediately as one.
  2. A request is queued for a superadmin, and every superadmin is emailed.
  3. When they confirm it, your account becomes a coach and you are emailed. The Clubs screen gains a create a club button, and Exercises becomes editable.
  4. If they turn it down, you are emailed the reason. Your account keeps working as an athlete.
Why the wait

Choosing "coach" records a claim, not a grant. A coach writes other people's training and can see the feedback they log, so the app does not take the claim at face value - somebody confirms it first.

While you are waiting

Nothing is blocked. Log your maxes, join a club you were invited to, post to the feed. When the confirmation lands, everything you did as an athlete is still there - it is the same account with more it can do.

The badges on your profile

Your profile carries two of them, side by side under your name, each in its own colour.

What you are here is the first: athlete, coach or superadmin. You do not pick this one - it follows your account, and it changes by itself the day a coach request is confirmed.

What you lift is the second, and that one is yours to choose:

Your badges are worked out from the maxes you record, not picked from a list:

BadgeFor
Iron Recruit … Titanyour tier, from your DOTS score
2x bodyweight squat, 1.5x bench, 2.5x deadliftwhat you lift against what you weigh
500 kg club, 1000 lb club, 1500 lb clubmilestone totals
300 / 400 / 500 DOTS clubcoefficient milestones
Squat specialist, Deadlift specialistthe shape of your three lifts

They appear on your profile as soon as you have a bodyweight and your three maxes on record, and the strength calculator shows what any total would earn before you get there. Nothing to pick and nothing to keep up to date: the badges follow the numbers.

Joining a club

Two ways in, and they are different acts:

  • A coach adds you. You are simply in the club, and you get an email saying so.
  • A coach invites you. The invitation waits under Invitations until you accept or decline it. It also arrives by email.

An invitation is addressed to your email address, not to your account, which means a coach can invite you before you have signed up: create the account with that same address and the invitation is waiting on your first visit.
